An Unforgettable Outing
Fifteen kilometres down the Durgapur Expressway, the highway leads you to a right turn just as you strike the Indian Oil Depot. There you hit a narrow road that helps you to the railway line and once you make it through the crossing you are into the rural brink of Burdwan district merging into Bankura. There you are welcomed by the homely village of ‘AMLA JORA’.
Saptami was the ideal day to journey. Puja had just begun and festivity was in the air. We set out at about 10 AM and crossed the railway crossing at 10.20. The landscape then onwards was a feast for the eyes. The road narrowed into an undulating terrain with nano-hillocks on one side and a green- blue canal on the other.
We then came to the Amlajora Math-a most peaceful and tranquil abode. It used to be the favourite playing haunt of my mother and her siblings in their childhood. About 200 years old, it is a perfect refuge for the crisis ridden, stressed mind of ours!
Time to come back, so past, present and future all board the time machine, ready for take-off. Reality besmears the past and transports us to present. Back are we to our daily mundane lives having spent some indelible moments to be cherished for a long time!
