An vehicle has a mass of 1500 kg. What must be the force between the vehicle and the road if the vehicle is to be stopped with a negative acceleration of 1.7 ms⁻²? ( Ans: 2550 N in a direction opposite to that of the vehicle)

Acceleration of the Vehicles = -1.7 m/s².

Mass of the Vehicles = 1500 kg.

Using the Newton's Second law of the Motion,

Force = mass × acceleration.

∴ Force = 1500 × -1.7

⇒ Force = -2550 N.

Negative sign shows that the Force is acting in Opposite Direction.

Hence the force of 2500 N is acting in opposite direction.

Hope it helps.
