Population distribution means the pattern of where people live. World population distribution is uneven. Places which are sparsely populated contain few people. Places which are densely populated contain many people. Sparsely populated places tend to be difficult places to live. These are usually places with hostile environments e.g. Antarctica. Places which are densely populated are habitable environments e.g. Europe.

Answer:
There could be many reasons for the uneven population in India. Some of them are-
Unfavorable Climate- One would not want to live where it rains heavily or it doesn't even rain. We all like a place that would be profitable to us both economically and physically. That's what people prefer and that's what makes a difference in population.
Inadequate resource Supply- Second reason is the insufficient bestow of resources food grains, water, etc. People normally prefer places which are rich in resources.
Land- Land is a major reason due to which the population can change. People normally don’t like to stay in hilly areas with rough terrain.
There are many more factors that together contribute to making India a place of uneven population.
