During British period, Indian education system was deeply influenced by English literature and language.

So naive Indians did not understand the English better and they did not receive the education from the British government.  

Apart from that, British education policy was concentrated on some western cultures which do not matched with the Indian culture and activity.

Even they have implemented some rules for the native Indians which were made some hurdles for the Indians.
