The religious history of China goes back to 70,000 years back. There were mainly three religious traditions or philosophies in ancient China :

1.  Taoism was founded by Lao-Tzu in 6th century BC. It believed in Tao-the way. The Tao is the natural order of things and a force that flow through all the universe and its creatures. The followers of Taoism worship various deities and do not consider Tao as God.

2.  Confucianism was founded by Confucius in 551 BC. It is not a religion but a way of life. It teaches respect, politeness, morality, fairness, honesty etc. Unlike Taoism it believes in an organised government.

3.  Buddhism was introduced in China in 3rd century BC by emperor Asoka of India. He sent missionaries to China to spread Buddhism. Buddhism believe in the teaching of Buddha and focuses on personal spiritual development.
