Analyse the electron dot diagram if the formation of fluorine and oxygen molecules and answer the following questions given below.

These atoms form covalent bonds within themselves to form DiOxygen and DiFluorine gases.

Explanation:

As you may know, covalent bond is the result of sharing of electrons, thus the bond formation takes place via sharing of electrons.

In case of F2, Fluorine atoms share 1 electron each and form a shared pair of electrons which results in 1 covalent bond, so total shared electrons = 2, hence completing each fluorine atom's octate.

In case of O2, Oxygen atoms share 2 electrons each and form 2 shared pairs of electrons which results in 2 covalent bonds, so total shared electrons = 4, hence completing each oxygen atom's octate.

Transfer of electrons is not possible in this case, because electronegativity of either 2 Fluorine or 2 Oxygen atoms is always same, so no electronegativity difference occurs and hence, no tranfer of electrons.
