For all of their requirements, the tribals were reliant on the forest. The majority of them subsisted on hunting and foraging for food in the forest. Fruits, roots, honey, and medicinal herbs were taken from the forest. These things were either consumed by them or sold in the local market. They usually moved to another forest when one forest could no longer meet their needs. As a result, they were known as the 'People of the Forest.'
They relied on the forest to provide their fundamental requirements and to serve as a balanced productive eco-system; hunting wild animals, harvesting wild fruits, seeds, gum, flower, firewood, fodder and water for cattle, fishing, plantations, and orchards, among other things, as and when they were available.
