This is not a true statement that the managers prioritize their own gain because nowadays managers are more creative and innovative as compared to the previous managers and they are contributing a lot with their creativity and when the managers contribute the profit which the company and the stakeholders earn, if the managers are paid well they prioritize the interests of stakeholders.
