It is not true to say that today's managers prioritise personal gain ahead of the stakeholders' interests. In fact, earlier, professional managers were not so well paid as they are today. Hence, today, they demand an appropriate pay package and equally attractive terms of service. Once this is settled, they get down to work in right earnest. This the reason why good managers are in great demand and are paid astronomical sums of money, because of their expertise, professionalism and effectiveness.
The 21st century manager is loyal to the task in hand, is proactive and is the catalyst for growth of commerce and industry. If the organisation progresses, it benefits in most parameters, most of all its profit moves northwards which is the primary gain for the stakeholders as their ROI shows a continuing positive trend.
