  • analyse question is for 6 marks
  • Take any two- three reasons for improving mobility of labour ( ideally choose one geographical  and one occupational ) and explain well.
  • Do not make headings, do not use bullets, simply make small well developed paragraphs

for eg

Improving Education and Training can help improve occupational mobility over time :

The occupational mobility of labour depends on the extent to which Labour is educated and trained. The

higher a government spends on education and retraining or imparting skills the greater the occupational

mobility of labour. Labour can easily switch from one sector or job or profession to another if it can

easily retrain , acquire new skills or if education is easily accessible. A well trained and educated labour

can quickly adapt and adjust in new sectors, professions or  jobs in face of rapid technological change

and change in fashions and trends which can affect the job /labour market.

Improvement in Means of Transport and Communication can improve geographical mobility over time:

Well-developed means of transport and communications encourage geographical mobility of labour.

The worker knows that in case of emergency at home he can easily communicate with his family on

phone or travel back by train within the country or by aero-plane if he is abroad. If a government invests

in good infrastructure and communication then it can increase the ease with which labour can move

from one geographical area to another to work.

Improving information about availability of job can improve labour mobility:

Due to better communication means the problem of lack of information is being solved over time as

now more and more potential workers looking for job have information about jobs available. People

without jobs or those in poorly paid jobs may stay where they are because they are unaware of job

opportunities available. If the government works to build job centres, websites and other means to

improve information on availability of jobs then mobility will increase.

Industrial Development can help increase geographical mobility (Urbanisation)

The mobility of labour is determined by industrial development. Workers move from different

occupations and places to work in factories. Industrialisation also leads to urbanisation and workers

move from rural and semi-urban areas to industrial centres and big cities.

Mobility of labor refers to a worker's capacity and ability to shift from one location to another, one profession to another, one employment to another, or one industry to another.

  • When workers shift to jobs for which they are most equipped, labor mobility aids in enhancing the efficiency and productivity of workers.
  • When people switch from low-paying to high-paying employment, their salaries are also increased.
  • When workers relocate to areas where they are needed, the unemployment issue is resolved.
  • Additionally, when unemployed workers go to factories and public works projects like dams, highways, canals, etc., they contribute to economic growth. As a result, it boosts income, employment, and productivity.

The factors affecting the increase in labor mobility over time:

1. Means of Transport

  • Mobility labor is encouraged by well-developed transportation and communication systems.
  • The worker is aware that, in the event of a home emergency, he may quickly contact his father via phone, take a train inside the nation, or fly home if he is abroad.

2. Industrialisation:

  • Industrial development determines the labor market's mobility. To work in factories, workers travel from a variety of professions and locations.
  • Workers relocate from rural and semi-urban regions to industrial hubs and major cities as a result of industrialization and urbanization.

3. Education and training:

  • The level of education and training of the labor force affects its mobility. A person's chances of switching jobs or locations expand with increased education and experience.
  • Education and training are prerequisites for both vertical and geographic mobility.

4. Trade:

  • The growth of trade and commerce causes institutions and offices associated with them to disperse around the nation.
  • As a consequence, workers switch jobs and locations to work in banks, insurance firms, trade, and commercial offices, etc.

5. Perspective or desire:

  • A worker's mobility is influenced by their vision or desire to advance in life.
  • They will go on to other jobs and locations if they are positive and open-minded. Language, habit, religion, caste, and other differences will not limit their movement.
