The process of transition from territorial state to empire in the age of Buddha was:
● In the sixth century B.C during the period of Buddha, there were sixteen mahajanapadas or large regional units. Among them, Magadha, Koshala, Vatsa, and Avanti were all the more impressive.
● Magadha under its goal-oriented rulers like Bimbsara and his child Ajatshatru of Haryanka Dynasty vanquished the neighboring mahajanapadas and in this way we see Magadha rose as an incredible realm which administered over a huge piece of India.
● Bimbsara brought Avanti and Kashi to his domain through victory and marriage union separately.
● Ajatshatru added Vaishali and reconquered Kashi to the Magadha and consequently Magadha rose a realm.
