In this poem I think the author is trying to send a message to all kids that they are spending way to much time sitting around watching TV. He is saying that kids should be outside playing or doing anything active rather than sitting around being lazy watching TV.

At the beginning of the poem the author is saying that the kids dad and mom are mad at him and keep yelling at him. For example, when his dad yells at him in the beginning of the poem, "Turn that thing off!" In the middle of the poem he is starting to say that he would rather watch TV with his buddy than study. And lastly at the end of this poem his dad and mom yell at him for watching TV but they too are watching TV a lot. For example, Dad says, "If you don't turn it off, I'll hang it from a tree!" I rather doubt he'll do it, cause he watches more than me....

HOPE IT IS HELPFUL...
