Once a day, the Storyteller Stands on a Bridge over the Floss next to Dorlcote Mill. The storyteller peacefully watches a little girl and her white dog that stand on the bank of the stream, look the mill. The storyteller will see the sunshine of a fireplace burning within the small girl's house. It is decades later and also the teller has been dozing in her armchair, dreaming of that past afternoon outside Dorlcote Mill. The storyteller issue to inform the story what Mr. and Mrs. Tulliver were discussing in their house thereon afternoon.
