Ananya walks 11 meters in the first 3 seconds and then walks another 5
meters in 2 seconds. Then she meets a friend and stops for 3 seconds to talk
to her. Then she runs 20 meters. If Ananya’s average speed for the entire
motion was 3 m/s, find the time for which she was running

The time for which she was running was 4 seconds.

Given - Distance and time

Find - Time of running

Solution - Let the time of running be x.

Distance covered = 11 + 5 + 0 + 20

Total distance = 36 m

Time taken = 3 + 2 + 3 + x

Total time = 8 + x

Average speed = total distance covered/total time taken

3 =  \frac{36}{8 + x}

Performing cross multiplication

3 \times (8 + x) = 36

24 + 3x = 36

3x = 36 - 24

Performing subtraction

3x = 12

x =  \frac{12}{3}

Performing division

x = 4

Hence, Ananya ran for 4 seconds.
