  • Vestigial structures are those structures that have lost their function and become useless or rudiment in our body but were used by our ancestors. Example- Wisdom tooth and Vermiform appendix in Humans are the vestigial organs.

  • Homologous structures are those which have the same embryonic and evolutionary background (common ancestors), similar structures but show different functions. Example- Bones of  Forelimb of human and bone of forelimb of bird.

  • Analogous structures present in different organisms are those that have different anatomical structures and evolutionary backgrounds (ancestors) but have similar functions. Example- Wings of bat and wings of birds.
