it is a gel -like Matrix composed of enzymes ,water ,nutrients ,waste and gases and contain cell structures like ribosomes ,a chromosome and a plasmid. the cell envelope encases the cytoplasm and all its contents .unlike Eukaryotic (true) cells, bacteria don't have a membrane bound nucleus.
