The ancient education system in India focused much more on values rather than rote learning whereas the modern education system focuses much on rote learning and various disciplines of education. Today's modern education system focuses a lot on generalised and rote learning, which are not needed in several cases.

Modern education teaches about the skills required today that is the skills of science and technology, science of medical science etc. ... The methodology used for teaching is very interactive. Modern education is just an evolution of the traditional education which was imparted to the students a few years back.
