and –36 marks and Radha scored -42, -12,28 and 38 marks. Who so more marks? A monkey is trying to climb a pole measuring 15 m, which is greased. He tries to climb 3 m and slips down 2 m every time. In how many attempts will the monkey be able to climb 10 m of the pole?

The monkey climb 3m and slips down 2m each time

⇒ net gain = 3 - 2 = 1m

Find the number of attempts needed to reach the 7m mark:

Each attempt = 1 m gain

Length of the pole = 10 m

Number of attempts needed to reach the 7m mark = 7 ÷ 1 = 7

Find the total number of attempts needed:

Number of attempts needed = 7 + 1 = 8

(the last attempt of a 3m climb made at the 7m mark will reach end of the pole)

Answer; The monkey needs 8 attempts
