THE HUMAN SKELETON
Have you noticed a kite, a house or a car? They
all have a frame. A kite has an outer frame that is
covered by paper. A frame gives shape as well as
strength to the object. The human skeleton,
which is a frame made up of bones, gives our
body shape and support. It protects the soft and
delicate internal organs of the body. The bones
are like the poles inside a tent, holding the body
upright. The framework of the bones is not rigid
and helps in the movement of the body. Bones
also act as an anchor for the muscles.
The skeleton of an adult human is made up of
206 bones. The human skeleton consists of the
following:
• The skull
• The spine or backbone
The rib cage
• The limbs (forelimbs and hindlimbs)
Definition:
Skeleton is the framework of the bones that provides protection
to the delicate internal organs, gives the body a proper shape and
