Means there are many paths for us to go ahead in our life but we have to choose the right one. We should not attract to the one who is choosen by many people unnecessarily..And here poet says "in leaves no step had trodden black" he wants to say that the that he has choosen was chosw by very few.. Means he is not fascinated by the major path.
