This is because the inter-molecular force of attraction between the molecules in a liquid is less when compared to solids and the liquid molecules are loosely packed. In a liquid, the particles are in close contact and so they have a definite volume

2 = The gas particles have a high amount of energy, but as they're cooled, that energy is reduced. The attractive forces now have a chance to draw the particles closer together, forming a liquid. This process is called condensation
