6.In February 1917, there was severe food shortage in workers' quarters. On 22 February, a lockout took place at a factory leading to a strike by the workers. In other factories also, workers went on strikes and women led the way to the strikes. This came to be called, 'The International Women's Day'.
7.The relief and rainfall of any region determine the natural vegetation of that place. ... The western slopes of the Western Ghats receive more than 200 cm of rainfall. Due to heavy rainfall, tropical evergreen forests are found in this region on a large scale.
8.In our country elections are conducted by an independent and very powerful Election Commission (EC). The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) is appointed by the President of India. But once appointed, the Chief Election Commissioner is not answerable to the President or the government. Even if the ruling party or the government does not like what the Commission does, it is virtually impossible for it to remove the CEC. The Election Commission of India enjoys wide-ranging powers:
(i) EC takes decisions on every aspect of conduct and control of elections from the announcement of elections to the declaration of results.
(ii) It implements the code of conduct and punishes any candidate or party that violates it.
(iii) During the election period, the EC can order the government to follow some questions, to prevent use and misuse of governmental power to enhance its chances to win elections, or to transfer some government officials.
(iv) When on election duty, government officers work under the control of the EC and not the government.
9.Disguised unemployment :
- In this case, the people seem to be employed but are actually unemployed
- Ex: Sometime in agriculture family, 5 people are working but only 3 people are needed to work on that farm. In that case, 2 people become surplus and are not needed on the farm. They also do not help in increasing productivity.
- These extra person working in some sector causes disguised unemployment
Seasonal unemployment:
- Seasonal unemployment occurs when people are unable to find a job in certain months of the year.
- Ex: People related to framing sector are busy during harvesting, wedding, trashing, etc. are done bu during another season when plant grow they have nothing to do.
- In the above case during plant growth season the people are unemployed. This is known as Seasonal unemployment
