1) The practice of Surveying also became common under the colonial administration. The British believed that a country had to be properly known before it could be effectively administrated.

2) By the early 19th century detailed surveys where being carried out to map the either country.

3) The effort was to know the topography , the soil quality ,the flora ,the fauna ,the local histories, and the capping patterns -

all the fat seen as necessary to known about to administer the region.
