4. A farmer has 100 acre cultivable land. He can sell tomatoes, sugar beet or radishes, he can raise.
The price he can obtain is 1 per kg for tomatoes, 0.75 a head for sugar beet and 2 per kg for
radishes. The average yield per acre is 2,000 kg of tomatoes, 3,000 heads of sugar beet and 1,000
kg of radishes. Fertilizer is available at * 0.50 per kg The amount required per acre is 100 kg each
for tomatoes and sugar beet and 50 kg for radishes. Labour required for sowing, cultivating and
harvesting per acre is 5 man days for tomatoes and radishes and 6 man days for sugar beet. A total
of 400 man days of labour at 20 per man days, are available. Formulate the problem as a linear
programming problem (L.P.P.) to maximize the farmer's total profit. Show the steps taken
clearly with your answer.
