QUESTION :

And you embrace the occasion to depart .

Explain the line.

ANSWER :

This line is taken from the play THE MERCHANT OF VENICE written by WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE

Act 1, Scene 1

Line no 64-66

Antonio says :

Your worth is very dear in my regard

I take it, your own business calls on you,

And you embrace the occasion to depart.

EXPLAINATION :

The scene starts in which Antonio is seen in a melancholy mood.He is found with two of his friends Salarino and Salanio who try to give various reasons for his sadness and try to bring him out of it. Salanio says that he was worried because of his merchandise while Salarino feels that he is in love while Antonio denies both the reasons.

Meanwhile, Salanio sees the arrival of Bassanio, Gratiano and Lorenzo. He feels that they are better friends of Antonio, so Salarino and Salanio should leave him with better company now.

Salarino says that he would have stayed till he made Antonio's mood merry but he has to depart now.To this Antonio replies that, They too are good friends but they have their own work and have to leave but they are giving the excuse of Bassanio, Gratiano and Lorenzo 's arrival to take the opportunity to depart.
