Given :- Andy rowed a distance of 45 km in still water in 3 hours. He rowed 33 km in 3 hours against the current .

To Find :- In how much time he row 76 km with the current ?

1) 5 hours

2) 4 hours

3) 2 hours

4) 3 hours

Solution :-

→ Distance rowed in still water = 45 km

→ Time taken = 3 hours .

So,

→ speed of andy in still water = Distance / Time = 45/3 = 15 km/h

now, let us assume that, speed of current is x km/h .

then,

→ Speed against the current = Speed in still water - speed of current = (15 - x) km/h

→ Distance covered = 33 km

→ Time taken = 3 hours .

therefore,

→ Speed × Time = Distance

→ (15 - x) × 3 = 33

→ 15 - x = 11

→ x = 15 - 11

→ x = 4 km/h

now,

→ Distance covered with the current = 76 km

→ Speed with the current = Speed in still water - speed of current = 15 + 4 = 19 km/h

So,

→ Time taken = Distance / Speed = 76/19 = 4 hours (2) (Ans.)

Hence, Time taken to row 76 km with the current is equal to 4 hours .
