Answer:

let x is the speed km per hour in first 4 km.

and 2x is speed, after 4km.

so average speed=av. distance/av.time=(16+4) /2/3=10/3km/ hr

now av speed=av.distance/av.time=(16+4) /2/3=10/3km per hr

now (x+2x) /2=10/3

so x=20/9 km per hr in first 4 km and 40/9 km per hr in 16 km distance

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Let andy's speed = x km/h

Time taken with this speed to cover 4 km/h = 4/x h

Time taken to cover 16 km with a speed of 2x = 16/2x h

total time taken is 4/x +16/2x

He takes 3 hours to complete the distance

4/x +16/2x = 3

8 + 16/2x =3

24 /2x= 3

24 = 6x

24/6 =x

x = 4

So, andy's speed is 4 km/ h
