We know,
The sum of opposite interior angles is equal to the value of the exterior angle.
Thus,
BAC + ABC = ACD
or, 4x + 3x = y
or, 7x = y

Also,
ACD + ACB = 180° (Linear Pair)
or, y + 40° = 180°
or, y = 180° - 40°
or, y = 140°
Continuing from Eq. N,
x = y/7
or, x = 140°/7
or, x = 20°.
Thus,
