In ΔABC, by Pythagoras theorem, we have:

BC^2 = AB^2+AC^2

BC^2= 5^2 + 12^2=25+144= 169

BC= 13cm

Since, AD is perpendicular to BC

So, BD=DC=6.5cm =BC/2

Now, In ΔADB, by Pythagoras theorem, we have:

AB^2= AD^2+AB^2

5^2=AD^2+6.5^2

AD^2=42.25-25=17.25cm

AD= 4.15cm

Therefore, area of ΔABC= 1/2xAbxAD

=1/2x5x4.1=10.5cm^2 .
