SOLUTION

GIVEN

Angles of measure ( a + 15)° and 2a° are complementary

TO DETERMINE

The measure of each angle

EVALUATION

Here it is given that the angles of measure ( a + 15)° and 2a° are complementary

We know that two angles are said to be complementary if sum of angles = 90°

Thus we get

( a + 15 )° + 2a° = 90°

⇒ 3a° = 75°

⇒ a° = 25°

Hence the angles are 40° , 50°

⇒ (a + 15)° + 2a = 90°

⇒ 3a = 90 - 15

⇒ 3a = 75°

a = 25°
