Let total number of apples be x.

5/6 of x apples bought at 4 apples for Rs. 5.

∴CP of one apple =

(6×5)

(5×4)

x=Rs.

3

2

x

Rest apples=x−

6

5

x=

6

x

6

x

, bought at 3 apples for 5

CP=

(6×5)

(3x)

=

10

x

.

So Average CP =

2

(

3

2x

)+(

10

x

)

=

30

23x

=0.76x per apple.

Now, average selling price =

11

20x

=1.81x

Gain = Rs 15

⇒1.81x−0.76x=15

⇒1.05x=15

⇒x=14.28

Thus, no. of apples = 14.

We know that,

given data;

bought number of apples for 100

kept 4 apples with himself

sold the remaining for 90 gaining 25 per apple

find out;

a number of apples he bought.

Let us,

consider the total number of apples to be x.

5/6 of x apples bought at 4 apples for Rs. 5.

Therefore,

CP of one apple = (6×5) (5×4)

x=Rs.

3 2 x

Rest apples=x− 6 5

x= 6 x 6 x

bought 3 apples for 5

CP= (6×5) (3x)

= 10x

So,

Average CP = 2  ( 3 2x )+( 10 x )

= 30 23x

=0.76x per apple.

Now,

average selling price = 11 20x

=1.81

Gain = Rs 15

1.81x−0.76x=15

1.05x=15

x=14.28

Hence, the number of apples = 14.28≅ 14
