Question :- Anil bought two varietes of powders costing Rs.5 per kg and Rs.6 per kg each and mixed them in some ratio . Then he sold the mix at rs 7 per kg making a profit of 20 percent. What was the ratio of mixture ?

Solution :-

Let us assume that, anil bought x kg of powder at the rate of Rs.5/kg and y kg of powder at Rs.6/kg.

Than,

→ Total weight of Mixture = (x + y) kg..

Now,

→ Total CP = 5 * x + 6 * y = Rs.(5x + 6y)

and,

→ Total SP = Rs.7(x + y) .

So,

→ Profit = SP - CP

→ Profit = 7(x + y) - (5x + 6y)

→ Profit = 7x - 5x + 7y - 6y

→ Profit = Rs.(2x + y)

Therefore,

→ profit % = (Profit in Rs. * 100) /CP

Given that, Profit % is 20% .

So,

→ (2x + y) * 100/(5x + 6y) = 20

→ 100(2x + y) = 20(5x + 6y)

dividing both sides by 20,

→ 5(2x + y) = 5x + 6y

→ 10x + 5y = 5x + 6y

→ 10x - 5x = 6y - 5y

→ 5x = y

→ (x/y) = (1/5)

x : y = 1 : 5 (Ans.)

Hence, The ratio of the Mixture was 1 : 5.
