Anil is 3 times as old as his son. Five years later, he will be only 2 1/2 times older than his son. How old are they now?

anil = 3x
five years later
son would be x+5
anil would be 3x+5
3x + 5 = 5/2 (x + 5)
3x + 5 = 5x/2 + 25/2
6x + 10 = 5x + 25
6x - 5x = 25 - 10
x = 15
son 20 year anil 5/2 * 20 = 50 years
