Sensibility is the attribute of being able to respond to emotions and aesthetic. The ability to be offended and to react to others emotions and feelings.
In the story 'A dog named Duke,' Hooper and Marcy do not seem to understand that Duke too is able to have emotions and express his feelings. When Hooper gets an accident and gets admitted, Duke is locked up in the kennel unable to spend time with his ailing master and friend. This is evident when Hooper gets discharged, and Duke seems to express his frustration by knocking Hooper above the belt. This however, would also have been due to the fact that Duke somehow sensed his masters need. In a short while Duke was helping Hooper do exercise and get him back to his feet. However, Hooper did not seem to reciprocate, at first, the love and effort that Duke was putting into helping him. Duke illustrates his sensibility at some instance by growling, snorting and poking when Hooper was still cold towards him.
What all this shows is that animals too can have feelings and express them in a way and they should never be ignored as insensible objects.
