Plants and some of the bacteria are the only organisms who can synthesize their own food by using the inorganic raw materials present in surrounding and by converting solar energy into chemical energy through the help of photosynthetic pigment, chlorophyll. As animals lack such pigment and mechanism for conversion of solar energy into chemical energy. Animals depend upon the plants for their daily food needs.
