Animals produce gametes which fuse to form a zygote.

  1. Wherever there is a fusion of gametes we call it sexual reproduction which also involves the process of fertilization.
  2. Sexual reproduction involves two parents and hence two gametes are produced which are haploid.
  3. When two haploid gametes fuse or unite they form a diploid zygote. In this zygote division of cells occur with cleavage formation, further developing into an embryo.

Therefore the fusion of two gametes produces a zygote.
