Animals such as sponges lack nervous tissue and muscle tissue. We get to know the following things about sponges;


(i) Sponges are a member of the phylum porifera.


(ii) Sponges are multicellular organisms.


(iii) Sponges allow water to circulate all over them.


(iv) The body of a sponge is hollow and has a shape of mesohyl(jelly-like substance created by collagen)

Sponges are said to be a sister group of all animals as it was found to be evolved from common ancestor of all animals.

They don’t have any of the following

Nervous system

Digestive system

Circulatory system

True tissue and organs

They completely rely on constant flow of water for food, oxygen and waste cleaning processes. So the body of a sponge will adapt for a maximal efficiency of water flow.  

Sponges have some similar characters like other animals. They are

multicellular

Heterotropic

Sperm cell production

Lack of cell wall.
