added to Anita's age, then Anita will be four times Suman's age. How old were they two years ago?

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : Age of Anita = 2(Age of Suman); (i)

(Age of Anita + 4) = 4(Age of Suman - 6) (ii)

So, let the age of Anita be x and Suman be y.

Thus we can write equation (i) and (ii) as;

x = 2y;

(x + 4) = 4(y - 6);

Now, put the value of x in equation (ii) from equation (i);

2y + 4 = 4y - 24;

2y = 28;

y = 14.

Present age of Suman = 14;

Present age of Anita = 28;

Their age before two years;

Suman's age = 14 - 2 = 12;

Anita's age = 28 - 2 = 26.

That's all.
