Answer:

12\frac{2}{3} litres of juice was left with Anita.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : Total amount of juice purchased by Anita = 30 litre

              Amount of juice given to Neetu = 5\frac{1}{4} litre

            Amount of juice given to her brother = 2\frac{1}{6} litre

To find : Find how many liters of juice was left with her?

Solution :

  • It is given that Total amount of juice purchased by Anita = 30 litre

              Amount of juice given to Neetu = 5\frac{1}{4} litre

            Amount of juice given to her brother = 2\frac{1}{6} litre

  • We have to find the remaining litres of juice left for Anita.
  • To find the left over juice, we have to subtract the total amount of juice
  • given to Neetu and her brother from total amount of juice.
  • ∴ The equation becomes,

        Amount of juice left =30-(5\frac{1}{4}+2\frac{1}{6} )

  • Converting mixed fraction into fraction, we get

                            =30-(\frac{21}{4} +\frac{13}{6})

  • On doing cross multiplication, we get

                            = 30-(\frac{21*6+4*13}{4*6})

                            = 30-(\frac{126+52}{24} )

                            = 30-\frac{176}{24}

  • Further, by cross multiplication, we get

                            = \frac{30*24-176}{24}

                            = \frac{720-176}{24}

                            = \frac{544}{24}

                            = 12\frac{2}{3} litres

∴   12\frac{2}{3} litres of juice was left with Anita.
