Anita’s mother asked her to buy some groceries from the nearby store which was approximately 200 m away from their house. On her way to the store, she got way too exited to see the annual fair being held and travelled about 100 m extra to see the extravagant fair. She took 2 mins 30 s to reach the fair. Upon reaching there she remembered her mother’s orders and returned back to the store in another 1 min to buy the groceries.
What was Anita’s average speed and average velocity in going from
( i ) Her house to the annual fair.
(ii) Her house to the store.
Justify each step of your calculation.

Answer:

Given: a=5m/s2  , t=8s

To Find : Distance(s)

speed(v)= a xt= 5 x 8= 40m/s

So Distance(s)= v x t= 40 x 8= 320m.

Hence distance covered in 8 seconds is 320 metres.

Given: a=5m/s2  , t=12s

To Find : Distance(s)

speed(v)= a xt= 5 x 12= 40m/s

So Distance(s)= v x t= 40x12= 480m.

Hence distance covered in 12 seconds is 480 metres.
