Anjali started conducting weekly tests on Friday evening. The marks in this test was used as a metric to judge student's grasp over concepts discussed in this week. To discourage students from making wild guesses, she awarded +4 for correct responses and -1 for incorrect responses. No marks were awarded or deducted for unattempted questions.
The top scorer of last weekly test was Afzal. Afzal scored 300 marks. If he attempted all the 200 questions, then can you tell us how many questions were answered correctly by him.

Given,

The number of marks awarded for a correct response is +4

The number of marks awarded for a wrong response is -1

The number of marks scored by Afzal is 300

There are 200 questions in the test.

To Find,

The number of the questions that are answered correctly by Afzal.

Solution,

Let us say the number of questions, Afzal answered correctly = x

and the number of questions, Afzal answered wrongly = y

Now, since Afzal had attempted all questions,

x + y = 200 ---------A

Also since Afzal scored 300 marks,

4x - y = 300 --------- B

Now if we solve the above equations, that is A and B

we get 5x = 500

x = 100

Thus y = 100

Henceforth, Afzal has answered 100 questions correctly.
