Answer:

10 year and 20 year

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the present age of Sara be 'x'. So the present age of Anjum must be 2x.

5 years ago:

Age of Sara = x - 5  and,

Age of Anjum = 2x - 5

According to the question: his age was three times Sara's  age.

⇒ 2x - 5 = 3(x - 5)

⇒ 2x - 5 = 3x - 15

⇒ 15 - 5 = 3x - 2x

⇒ 10 = x

   Present age of Sara = x = 10 year

   Present age of Anjum = 2x = 20 yr

Understanding the question -

★ This question says that we have to find out the present age of Anjum and Sara. Given that Anjum is twice as old as Sara. Five years ago his age was three times Sara's age.

Given that -

★ Anjum is twice as old as Sara.

★ Five years ago his age was three times Sara's age.

To find -

★ The present age of Anjum and Sara.

Solution -

★ The present age of Anjum and Sara are 20 years and 10 years respectively.

Assumptions -

★ Let a be the present age of Sara.

★ Let 2a be the present age of Anjum

Full Solution -

→ a be the present age of Sara.

→ 2a be the present age of Anjum

~ Now as it's given that five years ago his age was three times Sara's age. Henceforth,

→ Sara's age = a-5

→ Anjum's age = 2a-5

~ Now as it's given that five years ago his age was three times Sara's age.

→ 2a-5 = 3(a-5)

→ 2a-5 = 3a - 15

→ 2a-3a = -15 + 5

→ -1a = -10

→ 1a = 10

→ a = 10/1

→ a = 10 years

  • Henceforth, the value of a is 10 years. Means age of Sara is 10 years.

→ 2a

→ 2(10)

→ 2 × 10

→ 20

  • Henceforth, the value of 2a is 20 years. Means age of Anjum's is 10 years.
