Given:

The dimensions of the rectangular sheet: 44 cm x 15 cm

The dimensions of the square sheet: 15cm x 15cm

To find:

a). What is the curved surface area of the cylinder formed?

b). What is the radius of the base of the cylinder?

Solution:

It is given that the rectangular sheet is folded along its length. Therefore the curved surface area of the cylinder will be equal to the area of the sheet

a) The curved surface area of the cylinder = 44 x 15 = 660 cm²

The width of the sheet (15 cm) will become the height of the cylinder.

Therefore the height of the cylinder = 15 cm

The circumference of the cylinder = 44 cm

Now the circumference = 2πr

44 = 2 x 3.14 x r

r = 7 cm

b) Therefore the radius of the base of the cylinder will be 7 cm.
