Addition of ratio =3+5=8
Divide 240 by 8=30
Ann = 3 x 30= £90
  Bob = 5 x 30=£150
Ann gives Colin half of= £90/2=£45
Bob gives Colin a tenth=150/10= £15
Colin =45+ 15= £60
  Fraction=60/240=1/4
So,the fraction received by Colin is 1/4.

Ann gave a half of her share to Colin.

Bob gave a tenth of his share to Colin.

To find:

The share received by Colin in fraction.

Solution:

Ann and Bob shared £240 in the ratio 3:5

Let 'x' be the amount of money shared.

3x + 5x = 240

8x = 240

x = \frac{240}{8}

x = 30

Anns's share = 3 × 30

Anns's share =  £90

Bob's share = 5 × 30

Bob's share =  £150

Ann gave a half of her share to Colin.Bob gave a tenth of his share to Colin.

Colin's share = \frac{1}{2} × 90 + \frac{1}{10} × 150

Colin's share = 45 + 15

Colin's share = £60

The fraction is \frac{60}{240} = \frac{1}{4}

Final answer:
