Total fare=$49.10

Tip given=$5

Rate per mile=$2.10

Total taxi fare=$49.10-$5.00

=$44.10

Miles travelled=Total taxi fare

___________

Thank you for asking this question. Here is your answer:

Let the distance between home and airport be  x  miles

Charges for  x miles are  2.10  ×  x  =  2.10 x

And as tip is  $ 5  , total fare is  2.10 x  +  5  = 49.10

i.e.

2.10  x =  44.10 →  the equation.

And  x  =  44.10

2.10  =  21  miles

And distance between home and airport is  21  miles.
