Given :- Anna bought soil that contains 12% of water . she wants to plant a flower that needs 18% of water . how much water does she need to pour in 2 kg of soil to plant the flower ?

SOLUTION :-

given that,

→ Soil contains water = 12% of its weight .

so,

→ Water present in 2 kg soli = 12% of 2kg = (12 * 2)/100 = 0.24kg .

Now, given that,

→ Flower needs water to grow = 18% .

Now, Let us assume that, x kg of water was poured by anna for plants to grow .

then,

→ 18% of (Soil + water) = Total water

→ 18% of (2 + x ) = (0.24 + x)

→ (18/100)(2 + x) = (0.24 + x)

→ (9/50)(2 + x) = (0.24 + x)

→ 9(2 + x) = 50(0.24 + x)

→ 18 + 9x = 12 + 50x

→ 50x - 9x = 18 - 12

→ 41x = 6

→ x = (6/41)

→ x = 0.146 kg . (Ans.)
