When she said that my diary can serve this purpose the purpose she referred to was that as she didn't have any close friend whom you can share all your private and personal info to all she could do was she could write that in her diary so she meant that she could share her secrets with her diary...as you share your secrets to your best friend she referred her diary as her best friend....
