Topics on which awareness to be created and behavior changes induced
by visit to households
i) Care of pregnant women, signs of high risk pregnancies , management of minor problems, and nutrition during pregnancy.
ii) Care of young children - prevention and management of diarrhea and pneumonia, preparation of O.R.T., Nutrition for children with stunted growth, facilities provided by government for free transport for children and free ambulance service to carry them to PHC/Hospital and back home upto 1 year age . Free treatment at Govt. Hospital for girl child upto 5 yrs age.
iii) Anemia - among children, adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers - causes , adverse effects, prevention, management - Govt. schemes for iron supplement . Role of proper nutrition & deworming .
iv) Breastfeeding- advantages of early breast feeding and exclusive breast feeding for six months. Problems that may occasionally arise and how to solve them. Supplementary nutrition to the baby after six months.
v) Advantages and disadvantages of various family planning methods, adverse effects of early marriage and pregnancy , risks in frequent use of e- pills
vi) Nutrition – balanced diet, nutrition during childhood, adolescence, pregnancy and breastfeeding and during illness.
vii) Harmful effects of adverse sex ratio- sensitization of family members of pregnant women etc. about pre natal sex determination . Educating pregnant women and their family members that with growing female education and work opportunities for them girl child is an asset for a family. Need to provide equal nutrition and medical care to girl child .
viii) RTI/STI - symptoms, prevention and facilities for treatment.
ix) Menstrual hygiene, use of sanitary napkins .
x) HIV/AIDS - prevention, symptoms and facilities for treatment.
xi) Personal Hygiene & sanitation ,Care of teeth and eyes.
xii) Prevention of water borne diseases.
xiii) Harmful effects of use of Tobacco, alcohol and other intoxicating drugs.
