A little prior to Shylock's arrival, Salarino tells Salanio about the bad news that he has heard on the Rialto (stock exchange). He has heard that a ship loaded with goods, worth a lot of money, has run aground. It is dangerously stuck in the area called the Goodwins, The area is notorious for grounding and ruining ships and this time Antonio's ship has become the victim. Though Salarino is hopeful that it is just gossip, Salanio is sure that it is true news. Shylock too comes by to confirm the news and is happy about Antonio not being able to pay back the debt. The ship sinking therefore means that Antonio will be dragged to court and will be at the mercy of the Jew.
The news of the ship sinking is indirectly news of Antonio sinking as well.
