Women were active participants in the events that took place in France and brought about so many important changes in French society. women, especially in Paris, stepped out of their traditional domestic role as a mother and wife, and extended into the turbulent world of revolutionary politics. They were directly involved with major events, such as the attack on the Bastille, the October Days of 1789, the Reign of Terror, and bread riots throughout the revolution.

They pressurised the revolutionary governments to introduce measures to improve their lives. Women worked as seamstresses or laundresses,sold flowers,fruit and vegetables in the market to support their husbands and family financially. To discuss and voice their interests woman started their own political clubs and newspspers and raised many important issues such as-

Providing education or job training to women of all sections.

They demanded higher wages as were given to men in those days

One of their main demands were to enjoy the same political rights as men.

About sixty women 's clubs came up in different French cities. Most famous of them were the Republican Women and the Society of Revolutionaries.
